Einstok Doppelbock

Akureyri, Iceland - 6.7% abv

When you see a German-style dark lager named with the German words dopple (double) and bock (strong), you know you’re in for a strong, dark, malty style that’s just perfect for those chilly winter months.  Traditionally produced by Franciscan monks to supplement their vegetarian diet, this style of beer is definitely rich and robust.  One of our favorite imported breweries, Iceland’s Einstok does a great job capturing classic beer styles such as this one, and truly makes them all very well.  Plus, this brewery is relatively off-the-radar, so you can always find your favorite Einstok beers at very refreshing price points.

This particular offering pours a reddish chestnut brown with a creamy head that’ll last the entirety of your enjoyment of the beer.  It has an abundance of delicious aromas and flavors like toast, raisins, caramel, and malted chocolate, with a long, smooth finish.

This especially versatile beer would be just as complementary next to a cheese board or meat entree as it would a chocolate cake or crème brûlée dessert.  Or, you could drink one on its own whenever you need a pleasantly warming feeling on a cold winter’s night.
