Radeberger Pilsner Zwickelbier
Radeberg, DE - 5% abv
Since 1872 this beer has been issued from the town of Radeberger in Saxony. Here, it is a tradition to drink freshly fermented Pilsner straight from the fermenter, poured through a tightly coiled stainless steel tube called a “pig’s tail”.
This Zwickel, or unfiltered, beer, presented in all of its yeasty glory, lightly alcoholic and sprightly in body. It crackles with electricity, supplemented by a leafy herbaceous note. One can imagine animated German conversation over meals of sausage and potatoes, fueled by this unfiltered, hazy lager.
As a sharp counterpoint to the big, malty beers usually prevalent in this season, this zippy beer offers pleasure without a deep contemplation.
