Celler Credo de Recaredo "Miranius' Blanco 2021 (Penedes, Spain)
Miranius, which is a tribute to the clever foxes who venture into the vineyards looking for a snack, is a blend of Xarelo and Macabeo. Cellar Credo, located in the wine region of Penedes, is a big proponent for rediscovering traditional grapes and letting the terroir speak for itself. In the cellar, it undergoes spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel with minimal intervention; then is bottled unfined and unfiltered. She is lively and fresh, with a creamy mouthfeel and dry finish. pairing: oysters.
Guilhem et Jean-Hugues Goisot Bourgogne Aligoté 2022 (Burgundy, France)
Domaine Goisot has long been a champion of wines that hit well above their weight class. Located in St. Bris le Vineux, directly neighboring the storied village of Chablis. The secret’s in the soil, and the Kimmeridgian soil laced with bands of grey marl create some of the most sought-after soil types in the world. The Goisots respect the land with every choice they make in the vineyard and winery, and have managed to magnify this brilliant terroir to produce wines of simultaneous elegance and intensity, earning them the moniker “The Popes of St. Bris”. Often overlooked by Chardonnay in Burgundy, Aligote shines in their hands, showing luscious pear, citrus, and hawthorn, with minerality rippled throughout, and a finish reminiscent of hazelnut skins. Pairings: CHEESE!!!!!
Gobelsburg Schlosskellerei Rosè 2022 (Niederosterreiqch, Austria)
We have seen a surge of beautiful wine coming from Austria, and Gobelsburg consistently leads the pack for us. While some may only drink rose in the summer we believe rose should be drunk throughout the year, especially an example such as this from Gobelsburg, which has been producing wine since 1074. And while its history is storied, when the Gobelsburg estate purchased the vineyard in 1996 from monks, they maintained those holistic practices, including organic production. Made with Zweigelt, St. Laurent, and Pinot Noir, this wine is a stunning example of rose from one of the coolest areas of the Danube, with racy acidity that will awaken the palate. Pairing: Everything! But if you are being insistent, please go find raclette.
Domaine Des Terres Promises A Ma Guise 2023 (Provence, France)
It has become a January tradition for us to include A Ma Guise in the January wine club and we are never disappointed. This vibrant harvest wine is the first 2023 vintage to hit our shelves! A Ma Guise (translation "As I please") is a blend of 16 grapes, planted in the heart of Provence. Ripened by the long sunny afternoons of southern France, these are the first grapes of the season to be harvested. All 16 grapes are vinified together, and aged in stainless steel. The result is an authentic, juicy, easy drinking cuvee that we can't get enough of. Paring: Chili (embrace it).
Clos Fornelli Vin de Corse Rouge 2021 (Corsica, France)
Domaine Clos Fornelli is located in one of the most unique and wild wine producing regions of the world - the island of Corsica in the center of the Mediterranean sea. Clos Fornelli is sandwiched between the Castagniccia Mountains and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Madame Vanacci is unabashed in ensuring her terrior shines through the wines. Only utilizing wild yeasts, fermentation and aging occur in concrete resulting in wines as wild as the terrain. Sciaccarellu is a native grape varietal to the island. This is a dark-skinned grape with rich, soft tannins and playful aromas of violets, plum and redcurrant. Pairing: Pasta with sausage and broccolini.
Château Montfrin Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2021 (Rhone Valley, France)
Chateau Montfrin has a long rich history, in particular this domain was a holiday destination for kings, saints and playwrights. The small town of Montfrin, from which the Chateau claims its name, is located on the outskirts of the Rhone valley, kissing the edge of the Languedoc. Prior to becoming a vigneron and olive oil producer, Jean-Rene worked as a filmmaker. This wine is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan. Grenache dominates the blend which is unusual for the Rhone. The wine is vinified completely in steel, rendering it bright and juicy with notes of fresh blood orange juice, pomegranate molasses and cherry jam. Pairing: This is your grilling wine for January.
Master Pack
Domaine Weinbach Pinot Gris "Clos des Capucins" 2021 (Alsace, France)
This 400 year old estate is one of the best examples of Alsatian wine that we can access. This single vineyard is the original walled cru the estate was founded around. Pinot Gris from Alsace is seriously misunderstood by the larger wine world. this has texture, weight and incredible aromatics. Orange citrus and tart pear dominate the palate of this wine which only had 300 cases imported to the United States. As always keeping it classic. Pairing: Fried whole fish, and fried rice. (Clearly on a health kick this January)
Joseph Drouhin "Clos des Mouches" Beaune 1er Cru 2019 (Burgundy, France)
We tend to only feature smaller producers in an effort to shine a light on vignerons that the majority of America have not been exposed to yet. The Drouhin family is not a small producer and have been producing in Burgundy for 150 years. There are certain vineyards they have acquired in that history that deserve the attention that the greater wine world throws at them. Clos Des Mouches sits right north of Pommard with clay soil and a southeastern exposure. The 35 acres that the Drouhins farm has been farmed organically since 1990. Average age of the vines is about 40 years matching up with the switchover to organic farming. Dark cherry, a ton of baking spice and some strong tannic structure set this cuvee apart. Food Pairing: Potato au Gratin and a cut of steak that you love.
