Around Our Table

Lambert de Seyssel Petit Royal Grand Vin Mousseux Non-Vintage Seyssel, Savoie, France. 60% Molette, 40% Altesse
Seyssel, a tiny appellation in the Savoie, has been producing wines since the 11th century and in the 1800’s became wildly popular for their sparkling wine production. However, time was not kind to this winery, and it was shuttered in 2007. Thanks to the efforts of three locals who purchased the winery, the Petit Royal was not lost to the ages and has been revived to its former glory. Made in the traditional sparkling method with two grape varieties ubiquitous to Savoie, this bone dry sparkler delivers over the top complexity of alpine flowers, dried honey, goldenberries, and a ripple of toast to round it out. Pairing: Mac & cheese. raclette. fondue. All melty cheeses.

Heidi Schrock 'More is More' Welschriesling 2022 Rust, Burgenland, Austria. 100% Welschriesling.
A stone’s throw from the Hungarian border, Schrock has continuously pushed the envelope of classic Burgenland tradition while reintroducing ancestral varieties to Austria, all while farming organically, regeneratively, and with minimal intervention. Her Welschrielsing, a variety unto itself that shares no relation with Riesling, carries on in that spirit. A charmingly  fresh and crisp, with green apple, grapefruit, and a twinge of hay along the palate. Pairing: Thanksgiving prepwork. Thanksgiving dinner. Recovery on the couch after Thanksgiving. A Thanksgiving leftovers sandwich.

Broc Cellars 'Got Grapes' 2022 Clarksberg, California, USA. 100% Cortese.
The viticultural team at Broc Cellars utilizes their Got Grapes line to showcase single varieties and blends that uniquely inspire and scintillate them each vintage. Their 2022 white is 100% Cortese, a grape variety infrequently seen outside its native Italy, more often than not bearing the moniker Gavi. While Cortese is usually known for being light, crispy, and easy drinking, the winemakers of Broc manage to coax out flavors of fresh pear and lychee, with salted winter melon traipsing across the plate. Organically farmed. Foot stomped. Wild yeast ferment. Unfiltered. Unfined. Pairing: Pan-seared halibut. Shrimp scampi. Chicken piccata.

Domaine Prebende 'Cuvee Anna Asmaquer' Beaujolais Rouge 2022 Brouilly, Beaujolais, France. 100% Gamay.
Grown in the heart of Brouilly is one of our perennial favorites. Prebende translates to “tax” as a hat-tip to the domain's previous life as a tax collection center for the local monks, and the cuvee an homage to the Dupueble grandmother who tended the vines and managed the winemaking in the early 1900s. In the glass, you’ll find perfectly expressive Gamay in all its glory: bright wild berries, limestone, garrigue, and the subtle florality Brouilly is renowned for, with enough acidity to be engaging without overwhelming the delicate fruit nuisance. Pairing: Thanksgiving dinner. Roast pork tenderloin. Seared salmon.

Domaine Filliatreau “Le Classique” Saumur Champigny 2018 Saumur Champigny, Loire Valley, France. 100% Cabernet Franc
In 1967, at the tender age of 24 and with zero winemaking experience, Paul Filliatreau took over his father’s 8 hectare vineyard nestled in the heart of Saumur.  In the decades since, Paul has become one of the vanguards of Cabernet Franc in Saumur Champigny. His wines define the flavor profile from this humble region in the Loire Valley. Designed to be an approachable rendition of Cabernet Franc, this wine opens with gentle strawberry and raspberry juiciness, along with an underscoring of fresh cut provencal herbs and a ripple of granite crunchiness that keeps this wine playful and easy-drinking. Pairing: Pistachio-crusted lamb crown. Braised pork shank. Cassoulet (obviously.)

Domaine de La Grande Courraye Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux 2018 Côtes de Bordeaux Castillon, Bordeaux, France. 70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc
Founded in the 18th century, Domaine de La Grande Courraye has been championing Cabernet Franc for hundreds of years. Current winemaker Arnaud Lambert has expanded the Domaine’s reach beyond Cab Franc and into a wide swath of white and red varieties, all while pivoting the land to organic, sustainable viticultural practices. Their flagship red shows these efforts were not in vain. Merlot dominates this Bordeaux, with Cabernet Franc playing a supporting role.. Elegant, refined, and expressive, showcasing simultaneous supple black fruits and elegant fresh herbs, and an underscoring of fresh leather. This Bordeaux tows the line gracefully between classic and contemporary without missing a beat. Pairing: Any manner of slow-roasted beef, but especially Beef Bourguignon sitting by a fireplace.

Master Pack

Egon Muller Scharzhof Riesling 2018 Mosel, Germany
The consistent answer you will get on what wine professionals drink on Thanksgiving is Riesling. So if we are going to give you a riesling, it has to be classic. Egon Muller's estate has been producing wine since the late 1700's and is arguably one of the most iconic vineyards in the Mosel if not all of Germany. This bottling from the Scharzhof vineyard is the most approachable of the cuvees, especially young, and frankly five years is nothing for these wines. Expect ripping acidity and minerality , but as it opens you will get peach and lime as the juicy core fruit. All Praise to Riesling! Pairing - Intended for Thanksgiving, but pokė.

Louis Claude Desvignes "Montpelain" Morgon 2021 Beaujolais, France
Classic Cru Beaujolais is the counterpart perfect pairing for Thanksgiving. Morgon being the Cru in Beaujolais that is known for fruit driven and silky gamay. Powerful with dynamic fruit, there is more texture without a tannic backdrop. Whole cluster and carbonic maceration provide juxtaposing styles which result in the perfect balance. This single vineyard Montpelain is a .5 hectare plot that only recently became its own bottling in the last two vintages. Pairing - Paté, but also obviously Thanksgiving.
