Tasting Note:
Cantina Giardino’s 2022 “Le Fole” is a deeply expressive Aglianico that captures the rugged, mineral character of Campania’s Irpinia hills. Black cherry, wild plum, blackberry, violet, dried herbs, tobacco, and earthy spice unfold across a structured, savory palate. Firm but well-integrated tannins and lively acidity give the wine remarkable energy, while subtle volcanic minerality carries through a long, persistent finish. Powerful yet beautifully balanced, this is a serious southern Italian red with the freshness and complexity to reward time in the glass or cellar.

About the Producer:
Cantina Giardino is one of southern Italy’s pioneering natural-wine estates, founded by Antonio and Daniela De Gruttola in Irpinia, Campania. The project focuses on preserving the region’s extraordinary old vines and indigenous grape varieties, including Aglianico, Fiano, and Greco. Working with organically farmed vineyards, spontaneous fermentations, extended macerations, and minimal sulfur, Cantina Giardino produces wines that are deeply expressive of their volcanic soils and traditional agricultural heritage. “Le Fole” is their classic expression of Aglianico, combining the grape’s natural power with freshness, savory complexity, and unmistakable Irpinian character.
