Tasting Note:
Matassa’s 2025 “Olla Rouge” is a vibrant, expressive Roussillon red that combines juicy fruit with savory complexity and remarkable freshness. Wild strawberry, raspberry, red cherry, blood orange, violet, and Mediterranean herbs lead into a lively, light-bodied palate. Gentle tannins and bright acidity keep the wine refreshing, while subtle earthy minerality adds depth. Playful and wonderfully drinkable, especially with a slight chill, but with enough character to shine alongside food.
About the Producer:
Domaine Matassa is one of southern France’s most influential natural-wine estates, founded by South African-born winemaker Tom Lubbe in 2003 in the village of Calce, Roussillon. A pioneer of organic and biodynamic farming in the region, Lubbe works with old vines, native grape varieties, indigenous fermentations, and minimal sulfur to produce wines that challenge the traditional expectations of southern French winemaking. His approach emphasizes freshness, lower alcohol, and vibrant acidity over extraction and ripeness. “Olla Rouge” captures that philosophy perfectly, offering an energetic, aromatic expression of Roussillon’s Mediterranean terroir.
