Tasting Note:
The 2018 Barbera d’Alba from Roagna is a serious, structured expression of the variety, emphasizing depth and terroir over simple fruitiness. Aromas of blackberry, sour cherry, violets, and wild herbs mingle with earthy spice and subtle tobacco. On the palate, it is concentrated yet balanced, with dark berry fruit, plum, and dried flowers carried by lively acidity and firm tannins. The long maceration and neutral oak aging add layers of complexity and savory undertones. The finish is persistent, mineral, and elegant—more reminiscent of Nebbiolo’s structure than typical Barbera. A wine of tension and pedigree that will age gracefully.

About the Producer:
The Roagna family has been making wine in the Langhe for over a century and is regarded as one of Piedmont’s benchmark traditional producers. Under the stewardship of Luca Roagna, the estate continues its commitment to old vines, long macerations, and minimal intervention in both vineyard and cellar. While Barbaresco and Barolo are at the core of their reputation, Roagna also produces remarkable wines from Barbera and Dolcetto, giving these varieties a level of care and seriousness rarely seen.
