Tasting Note:
Ziereisen’s “Talrain” is a beautifully expressive Spätburgunder that combines the elegance of Pinot Noir with the savory, mineral character of southern Baden. Wild cherry, raspberry, red currant, violet, dried herbs, and subtle forest floor notes lead into a finely textured palate. Silky tannins and vibrant acidity balance the wine’s generous fruit, while a distinctive limestone minerality and gentle oak spice carry through a long, structured finish. Refined and complex, with the depth and balance to reward additional time in bottle.
About the Producer:
Weingut Ziereisen is one of Germany’s most respected Pinot Noir producers, based in Efringen-Kirchen, in the southern reaches of Baden near the borders of France and Switzerland. Hanspeter Ziereisen and his wife Edeltraud transformed the family’s agricultural estate into a benchmark for terroir-driven wines, emphasizing low yields, indigenous fermentations, long élevage, and minimal intervention. Working primarily with Spätburgunder, Gutedel, and Chardonnay, Ziereisen challenges conventional German wine classifications by bottling many of his wines as Landwein. “Talrain” showcases his Burgundian-inspired approach, combining depth, mineral precision, and remarkable aging potential.
