Tasting Note:
Champagne Doyard’s 2020 “Clos de l’Abbaye” is a powerful, beautifully precise Blanc de Blancs that showcases the remarkable depth of Chardonnay grown in Vertus. Lemon oil, ripe pear, white peach, green apple, acacia, toasted hazelnut, and subtle brioche lead into a concentrated, finely textured palate. The warmth of the 2020 vintage brings generosity and richness, while the vineyard’s chalky soils provide vibrant acidity and a striking mineral backbone. Fine bubbles and a long, saline finish give the wine exceptional balance, making this a serious, gastronomic Champagne with impressive aging potential.

About the Producer:
Champagne Doyard is one of the Côte des Blancs’ most respected grower estates, based in the Premier Cru village of Vertus. The Doyard family has cultivated vineyards in Champagne for generations, with the modern estate shaped by Yannick Doyard and later his son Charles. Known for meticulous vineyard work, low yields, oak fermentation, and extended lees aging, the domaine produces powerful yet remarkably precise Champagnes that emphasize terroir and longevity. “Clos de l’Abbaye” comes from a historic walled vineyard in Vertus and represents one of the estate’s most distinctive single-vineyard expressions of Chardonnay.
