Tasting Note:
Champagne Doyard’s 2018 “Oeil de Perdrix” is a beautifully expressive Grand Cru Champagne that combines Pinot Noir’s depth with remarkable elegance and mineral precision. Wild strawberry, red currant, blood orange, ripe pear, rose petal, toasted almond, and subtle brioche lead into a finely textured, vinous palate. The warm 2018 vintage provides generous fruit and richness, while vibrant acidity and chalky minerality keep the wine focused. Delicate bubbles and a long, saline finish make this a serious, gastronomic Champagne with impressive complexity and aging potential.
About the Producer:
Champagne Doyard is one of the Côte des Blancs’ most respected grower estates, based in the Premier Cru village of Vertus. The Doyard family has cultivated vineyards in Champagne for generations, with the modern estate shaped by Yannick Doyard and later his son Charles. Known for meticulous vineyard work, low yields, oak fermentation, and extended lees aging, the domaine produces powerful yet precise Champagnes that emphasize terroir and longevity. “Oeil de Perdrix” showcases a different side of the estate, using Grand Cru Pinot Noir from Aÿ to create a delicate, pale rosé Champagne inspired by one of the region’s historic styles.
