Tasting Note:

J.C. Garnier’s 2023 “13 Vents” is a beautifully expressive Chenin Blanc that captures the mineral intensity and savory character of Anjou’s schist-rich vineyards. Ripe pear, quince, yellow apple, preserved lemon, chamomile, and subtle wild herbs lead into a textured, energetic palate. Bright acidity and a distinctive saline minerality balance the wine’s gentle richness, while a long, savory finish adds depth and complexity. Precise yet expressive, with the freshness and structure to reward time in the glass or a few years in bottle.

About the Producer:
Jean-Christophe Garnier is one of Anjou’s distinctive natural-wine producers, based in Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay in the Loire Valley. After leaving a career outside winemaking, Garnier established his domaine with a commitment to organic farming, indigenous fermentations, and minimal intervention. Working with Chenin Blanc and other traditional Loire varieties, he produces wines that emphasize texture, savory complexity, and the mineral character of Anjou’s schist-rich soils. “13 Vents” comes from a south-facing parcel in Saint-Aubin-de-Luigné, where mature Chenin Blanc vines produce a wine of remarkable freshness, concentration, and sense of place.
