Tasting Note:
Frédéric Mabileau’s 2020 “Les Racines” is a beautifully structured Cabernet Franc that captures the depth and mineral character of Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil. Black cherry, wild raspberry, ripe plum, violet, graphite, tobacco, and subtle earthy spice lead into a concentrated yet elegant palate. Fine tannins and vibrant acidity balance the generosity of the 2020 vintage, while a distinctive limestone minerality carries through a long, savory finish. A serious, age-worthy Loire red that combines richness with remarkable freshness and precision.
About the Producer:
Domaine Frédéric Mabileau is one of Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil’s most respected estates, with family roots in the Loire Valley dating back generations. Frédéric established his own domaine in 1991, championing organic and biodynamic farming, meticulous vineyard work, and minimal-intervention winemaking long before these practices became widespread in the region. Following his passing in 2020, his sons Rémy and Charly Mabileau have continued the family’s commitment to expressive, terroir-driven wines. “Les Racines,” sourced from old-vine Cabernet Franc planted on the region’s limestone-rich soils, showcases the depth, structure, and remarkable aging potential of Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil.
